about thermistors NTC and PTC

Thermistor is electrical and electronic component. these are two types 1) NTC  2) PTC 

Thermister is a one type of resistor when the the temperature increased thermister resistance value  would be degreased or increased 



NTC (negative temperature coefficent)

When the temperature increased in the NTC thermistor component , it  become low resistance. NTC thermistors   used in the power circuits, SMPS,UPS and inverters. switched mode power supply, it's provides inrush current suppression for sensitive  power electronics. it is connected series with the power source will limit the current surges. (MF 72-SD9) power NTC  thermistor worked as an inrush current limiter in a computer SMPS.

In other words thermistor is used for protection from jerks ( small surges) because of up and down in the AC supply.

Ntp are small size and fast response high power handing capabillity. fast response to surge current and  wide  operating temperature -55 to +200 C.

NTC USED IN COMPUTER SMPS CIRCUIT 


PTC  (positive temperature coefficent)

When the temperature increased in the component  of  PTC thermistor, it become high resistance.

PTC thermistor  used in the CRT monitors,  TV'S and motor winding protection.

In TV'S or CRT monitor used to avoid colour patchs on screen. the AC supply is given to the degaussing coil through PTC thermistor  which magnetic field is genrated in the degaussing coil, this degaussing coil is mounted around the CRT. when TV is made on then the temperature of the PTC is low, at that time it's  resistance value is low, then through this, for while supply flow to the degaussing coil. but when the after some time the temperature of PTC increases, it's value of resistance become high, then it stop the supply to the degaussing coil.
